Agitators and ‘sectaries’ abounded – Ranters, Levellers, Diggers, Fifth Monarchists, Anabaptists and more besides. This well-armed crew of assorted rabble-rousers wield prayer books, polemics, political tracts and exhortations in addition to their weapons.
